Yesterday afternoon while we were getting ready to watch the Red Sox-Cubs game, Chesney had a sudden stroke, and it did enough neurological damage to his brain that it was time to say goodbye with dignity.
Surrounded by me and my parents – the three people he loved on this planet more than anyone else – we all got to say our goodbyes, and he passed away peacefully in his sleep shortly after 8 pm last night.
I’m heartbroken; my shadow, my afternoon walk companion, my bed-hogger, my couch buddy, my shotgun rider, my office security officer, and my best friend is gone. I will miss him tremendously.
Rest in peace, Chesney.
